The Rise of Women
“When you save the women, you save the world.”
- Mary J. Blige, R&B recording artist (2)
“…there is no tool for development more effective than the education of girls. No other
policy is as likely to raise economic productivity, lower infant and maternal mortality,
improve nutrition and promote health, including the prevention of HIV/AIDS.”
- Former UN Secretary General, Kofi Anan
The Third Way to Save the Planet: Uplift Women
Women are heavily repressed in much of the developing world, which denies them basic rights and cripples their societies’ development. Women’s ability to be educated, vote, and own property has myriad positive effects on a society including reduction in birth rates, child mortality, and domestic abuse, as well as an increase in literacy (1). The feminine perspective and presence at all levels of society is critical for the planet to move forward in its evolution. This inevitable rebalancing of our very human nature – within every person and every nation – entails less focus on aggression and domination and more espousal of compassion, communication, and interdependence. We must hold our women on high and encourage our daughters to be leaders of the next generation. Salient organizations that support women are UNICEF, Women For Women International, and CARE. Engaging and supporting the essence and power of women will highlight and cultivate the grandest version of humanity’s future.
